Description
Moringa oleifera, known as ‘Nebedaye’ or ‘never die’ in several African languages, is regarded as the most nutrient-dense plant globally. Originating in Northern India around 2000 BC as a medicinal herb, it later spread to the Philippines, Central and South America, Africa, and the West Indies. Often called the tree of life, Moringa has been valued for centuries due to its medicinal properties. Its lush green leaves provide over 90 nutrients and 46 antioxidants, including vitamins A, B, C, D, K, minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, as well as protein and fiber. Historically, Moringa seeds’ oil was used by Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians for perfumes and skin care, while in the 19th century, West Indies plantations supplied oil to Europe for perfumes and machinery lubricants. The leaves and pods remain staples in the diets of the Indian subcontinent, West Africa, and parts of Asia.
