Kenalog (Triamcinolone Acetonide) is a synthetic corticosteroid which may manage inflammation, and other oral irritation. The emollient dental paste acts as an adhesive vehicle for applying the active medication to the oral tissues. The vehicle provides a protective covering which may serve to temporarily manage oral irritation.

Kenalog in Orabase is indicated for adjunctive treatment and for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with oral inflammatory lesions and ulcerative lesions resulting from trauma.

Active Ingredients

Each gram of Kenalog in Orabase provides 1 mg (0.1%) triamcinolone acetonide in emollient dental paste containing gelatin, pectin, and carboboxymethylcellulose sodium in Plastibase® (Plasticized Hydrocarbon Gel), a polyethylene and mineral oil gel base.

Dosage

Press a small dab (do not rub in) to lesion at bedtime.

If necessary Kenalog can be applied 2 to 3 times daily, preferably after meals.

Warnings

This preparation is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its components.

Because it contains a corticosteroid, the preparation is contraindicated in the presence of fungal, viral, or bacterial infections of the mouth or throat.

I've suffered with the horrors of mouth ulcers for all of my life. Kenalog stops them in their tracks, as long as you apply it as soon as they appear. It's the only thing that works.

Proven effectiveness in treating mouth ulcers, especially in Behcet’s Stndrome

There is simply no substitute for Adcortyl in Orabase in treating moth ulcers, especially when frequent and persistent eg when caused by Behcet’s Syndrome. It enables the accurate placement of the medication to the ulcer meanwhile using the minimum amount of steroid to be applied, lessening the chances of unacceptable levels of thrush developing.
