Description
The major component of Psyllium is a mucilage which helps to lubricate the intestinal tract.
Psyllium acts as a bulking agent swelling to 8 - 14 times its original size in water thereby providing improved peristaltic action.
The amount of fluid taken determines whether it will have a laxative effect in constipation, or an astringent effect in diarrhoea.
If plenty of water is taken in the day, Psyllium becomes a bulking agent, if little water is taken it will act as an astringent.
A traditional 'mucilage' herb to aid in the treatment of mild constipation.
Drink plenty of water and increase fibre in diet.
